Book “Índios e Caboclos: Reencontros”

Design / Projeto cultural

The project “Índios e Caboclos: Reencontros” promoted a cultural exchange between members of the Kapinawá Indigenous Community and members of the Maracatu* Leão Africano, both from the rural areas of the state of Pernambuco. Despite the Maracatu Rural culture carry unmistakable traces of Indigenous ancestrality, these two communities are separated and don’t know each other. They are weakened by geographical, social, cultural and political isolation, as a result of the hard economic realities they face. The project reinforces their cultural links and the legacy of the Brazilian Indigenous traditions. The book tells, through photography, the story of this exchange.

*Maracatu is an African-Indigenous art form from the rural areas of the state of Pernambuco, Northeast Brazil.
