Funcultura 2013

O Norte is working on two projects sponsored by FUNCULTURA (the Pernambuco’s government cultural funder):
Olindas Memórias Fotográficas (Beautiful Photographic Memories of Olinda) and Índios e Caboclos: Reencontros (Indians and Mestizos: Reunions).

The project “Olindas Memórias Fotográficas” seaks to collect old memories present in photographies that are part of the private collection of the historic center of Olinda’s inhabitants. The idea is to collect and edit these photographies in order to develop a timeline of these memories that will tell a fragment of the history of the city. The final goal is to produce a book and give it back to the communitiy.
Article About the Project

“Índios e Caboclos: Reencontros” promotes a cultural exchange between members of the Kapinawá Indigenous Community from the city of Buíque and members of the Maracatu Leão Africano from the city of Nazaré da Mata. The reason for these meetings is because these two communities don’t know each other, despite the Maracatu Rural culture carry unmistakable traces of Indigenous ancestrality. They are separated from each other, weakened by geographical, social, cultural and political isolation, as a result of the hard economic realities that these communities face.

Therefore, the idea is to promote the (Re)Union between these people and reinforce their cultural links and the legacy of the Brazilian Indigenous traditions. The project aims to produce a book telling the story of these Reunions.
